Germany v England Betting Preview | 26/03/16

Olympiastadion Berlin| KO – 19:45

With the qualifications now over, England manager Roy Hodgson has the freedom to play around with his side over the up-coming friendly games before Euro 2016 starts in June. Most fans would regard this game against Germany as a mere formality, but it gives the manager the ability to take chances as well as the opportunity to bring in new un-capped players that have displayed some real talent in the league before deciding on his full line-up. With such a crazy season this year there are a couple of real prospects on the horizon that we’ll discuss in detail.

Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane have had outstanding individual performances for their respective clubs, which is fortunate for Roy as talisman Rooney has been well below par for Manchester United. It’s difficult for Roy as he prefers to play 4:3:3 so you can only really have one forward up front. Vardy has played out wide in the past at club level, so you could still see them both on the pitch, but it’s likely Roy will sub and give them 45 min runs to reduce the risk of injury for their clubs.

Jamie Vardy v Harry Kane
Both Kane and Vardy have had sensational performances this season which see’s them topping the goalscorer leaderboard.

Danny Drinkwater has been a rock in midfield for Leicester’s success in the league and Roy Hodgson has been a fan of the 26 year-old for some time, so last weeks announcement of his call-up to the senior squad came as no surprise. Roy may want to gradually bring him into the game, but he will definitely be involved at some point.

Manchester United have had a shocking season by their standards, but 18-year old Marcus Rashford has emerged as a great prospect for the clubs future, having scored on his debut and scoring the only goal in last weekend’s derby its put the young striker into United folk-law history. Both Rashford and Luke Shaw look likely to join the rest of the squad but it may be too early for this game.

Marcus Rashford has saved LVG on more than one occasion this season.

Given Germany’s success on the international stage as world beaters, Hodgson won’t want the same fate handed to the Brazil team during the World Cup final. That said the next couple of games are his last chance before the start of Euro 2016 so he’ll likely start with a lot of new players with a mixture of experience to settle the team.

Roy looks to be in a better position with the choice of players at his disposal compared to 12 months ago, we just hope he takes full advantage of the opportunity to give him more options come June.

Both Raheem Sterling and Joe Hart will be out of the England game, with Barnsley’s goalkeeper Tom Heaton into the England squad to replace Hart.
